MDAS Virtual Gala 2021 – Caring For Our Caregivers

MDAS will be holding our annual gala again this year! As part of our Give Hope campaign, this virtual event will be held live on our Facebook page. This year’s theme is ‘Caring for our Caregivers’, as we want to appreciate our caregivers and showcase their tireless contributions in the lives of our beneficiaries*.

MDAS is committed to uplifting the lives of children and adults living with MD. As a dedicated group, we understand the challenges they face, and as such, our programmes and services are aimed at enhancing the quality of life for these families. These range from life-skills training and health education to physiotherapy, respite care and financial-related assistance. Our support ensures that every life journey of a person with MD is cared for holistically.

Your generous donation** will go towards supporting MDAS’s operating expenditure in providing programmes, services, all supporting costs for over 500 beneficiaries and sustain its operating activities. Tote Board and the Government will also contribute dollar-for-dollar matching for every donation for this event!

Appeal for Donation: Caring For Our Caregivers

As the primary caregiver for her daughter, Jasmine Yau who has Spinal Muscular Atrophy, Monica Leng recalls her constant challenges. Since birth, Jasmine has been reliant on a BiPap machine to help her breathe and requiring a feeding tube. As Jasmine’s muscle weakness worsens with age, her physical ability diminishes. Monica struggles to carry her from her bed to her wheelchair and back daily, assist her in toileting while carving some time for self-care. “As a full-time caregiver, I’m thankful that MDAS allows me to interact with other mothers/fellow-caregivers. We share helpful advice and it’s great to know that I’m not alone. MDAS also provides relief for caregivers, for a few hours when needed, so we can have some rest. It allows us to breathe. And how we need it!”

MDAS expends over $900,000 yearly to provide a range of services that are highly subsidised for our beneficiaries. Your contributions will enable us to sustain our operating activities and continue to support caregivers like Monica. This in turn, champions an inclusive society where families of persons with Muscular Dystrophy are cared for and aided.

As part of our Give Hope campaign this year, MDAS will be hosting our Virtual Gala Live on our Facebook: Caring For Our Caregivers on 18th December 2021 at 4pm. Join us as we appreciate our caregivers and showcase their tireless contributions in the lives of our Muscular Dystrophy beneficiaries.

Donations of $500 and above are entitled to an afternoon tea set delivered.
